National Broadband Scheme, 3 & Me

Recently signed up for 3 broadband as part of the National Broadband Scheme. Can't say it has been a great experience.

3 supply you with a USB broadband modem. Bring it home and can't get a signal any where inside my house. So I order a repeater from 3 that is supposed to boost the signal.

Still no joy unless I stand outside in the rain. After a call to support which is based in Mumbai who first check I am using the hardware appropriately, I am told that the signal in my area would be checked.

No Company is an idea I had for some time. Basically it involves running a company on vaporware; no office, no hardware, no overheads, just creative people interacting via the web.

Beeping, A Mobile Phenomenon

Some months ago I recall reading about the concept of beeping, a method used to get someone to call you back. According to Wikipedia, it is a commonly employed by the cash strapped when they have little of no mobile credit or cannot afford the price of a call. The less well off  makes a call, waits for a ring tone and quickly hangs up before the recipient answers.

Beeping as a phenomenon is common is countries in Africa where the rule is that the person who is perceived to be better off pays for the price of the call. To get the attention of this person, you beep them and they will call you back.

Why I don't get Facebook

Why oh why do people go to the hassle of opening a browser, typing facebook.com, logging into their account, clicking on a friends wall to send them a short message?

Isn't email a lot quicker? Besides your buddy will have to go through the same process just to read your message.

And the funny part is they receive an email notification that someone has written on their wall.

Sounds like a waste of time to me...
